Red Bordner Distillery
Boiling Springs, South Carolina
Award-winning moonshine with a legacy of authentic craft
In Boiling Springs, South Carolina, there’s a distillery that refuses to mince its words, let alone its barley. Red Bordner Distillery, a 50-year-old purveyor of spirit, was launched by a self-styled BBQ legend who also insists on racing trophies for a touch of swagger. He swears by 100 % raw ingredients — no pretentious mash bills, just grain, water, yeast, and the honest grit of the South.
Their flagship, Kick Back Cove Moonshine, has collected 72 medals since 2017, proof that ambition can be measured in medals rather than marketing fluff. Beyond the classic Clear, they’ve ventured into orange-blossom honey and dragonfruit, each offering a wink at Appalachian tradition with a wink that isn’t quite a wink-wink.
Inside, the walls are cluttered with racing memorabilia that doubles as a shop. Staff are “helpful”, the atmosphere is described as “chill”, and if you’re looking for an authentic, no-fuss drink that still pulls its weight, this place is the distillery equivalent of a straight-forward, unpretentious road-ster.
